Remploy Packaging helps Fragrance Mad Ltd fulfil their
orders in style
Based in the West Midlands, Fragrance Mad Ltd sells a wide range of discounted designer perfume, aftershave, cosmetics and skincare to customers ordering online at FragranceMad.com. As a family business which started trading through eBay, by April 2008 Fragrance Mad Ltd was ready to move to the next level with a dedicated website - FragranceMad.com - with its own branding.

In order to meet the expected increase in orders, Fragrance Mad Ltd's Ray Gillespie wanted some specially branded boxes - for a business trading entirely online, this was particularly important. Ray recalls: "On eBay we were getting a orders every few days, so we sent them out in the existing empty boxes we had from the wholesale business based here. They weren't branded or necessarily the right shape, so we were keen to move away from this."
Ray searched the internet for companies who would be able to manufacture the boxes and after a call from Sarah Hirst, Business Development Manager at Remploy Packaging, a visit was arranged by Sarah to discuss their requirements. She was able to bring their expertise as one of the UK's leading packaging companies to help the newly emerging business. Remploy Packaging operates out of five dedicated manufacturing sites around the UK, allowing them to provide a local service to businesses around the country to a diverse and growing customer base.
Remploy Packaging worked with Ray to design a box that would ensure Fragrance Mad Ltd's perfumes and cosmetics would arrive in perfect condition. Ray recalls: "Sarah explained that the thinner, cheaper boxes were probably not suitable for our needs as they needed to be strong to protect our perfume in the post. They suggested the matt white corrugated card boxes would be most suitable for us."
Remploy Packaging then used Fragrance Mad Ltd's artwork to create boxes with a professional image which supports their branding. All Ray had to do was send through a jpeg file containing the brand images.
Ray placed his initial order for 1000 units within a couple of weeks. Ray has since expanded the range of boxes in his order as the business continues to grow: "We now use four different sizes of box, from tiny ones which we use to send out lipsticks to large ones for gift sets."
Sarah Hirst visits the company every month to check the ordering and manufacturing process is working well, and to check on stock levels. At the moment Ray re-orders around 3,500 units every few months, although last Christmas they had ten times more traffic through the website so had to triple their order during that month. Ray observes: "It takes about a week between placing our order and it being delivered, although once we were in a bit of a rush and Remploy turned the order round really quickly in just a few days."
It's testament to this close working relationship that Ray is happy to suggest Remploy to other companies looking for help with their packaging needs: "I would definitely recommend Remploy to others - in fact, I've already done so." This turns out to be a mutual benefit, as Sarah says she is becoming one of Ray's best customers!
